Sheet metal? Check!
Boat from an old marina surplus sale? Check!
More bravery than brains? Check!
The 1981 edition of Pontoon Combat was a landmark moment for experimental sports, combining the bone-rattling chaos of demolition derby with the questionable structural integrity of raggedy old pontoon boats.
It was an even bigger win for Duncan County Hospital, whose fourth-quarter deficit reportedly disappeared overnight.
Twelve men entered the marina. One claimed the trophy.
Was it Tommy Stetson? Jarvis Whitaker? Or did Paul Colón somehow survive the carnage and take home the hardware?
More importantly…
Would Duncan County actually allow an ’82 edition!?
The 1981 Boondrift Sports collection pays tribute to the mythical local legends who probably existed… somewhere out there.
This shirt combines vintage demolition derby chaos, old-school beach-life grit, and just enough beautiful absurdity to make people stop, stare, and eventually ask:
“Wait… was this a real event?”
Made from cotton or a cotton blend depending on color selection.
